THE WIRTH YDNA PROJECT
Welcome to the WIRTH YDNA Project website!
The WIRTH YDNA Group consists of families who performed YDNA tests at Family Tree DNA and who fall into the predominantly Jewish cluster of haplogroup J2a4b1 (J-L556, L560). The group is currently comprised of well over 100 families with different surnames and geographical roots. These families share matching or near matching 67 marker Y-DNA results as well as anomalies in their DNA signatures that make it a virtual certainty that they have a common paternal ancestor within a relatively recent timeframe (hundreds of years rather than thousands of years). New families exhibiting those DNA matches and anomalies are sought, to delve further into the likely origin and lifetime of that common ancestor, as well as into the migration paths of his descendants. The name of the group, WIRTH, is an acronym representing the first letters of the surnames of the group's founding families.
